Life is simply a culmination of the images we see, and capturing these images is, in a sense, documenting my life in the form of photography. More memories are triggered by the thousands of photos I have taken than by anything I've ever written down. A photograph holds so much power; it can make me laugh, make me cry, make me wish I was somewhere else, and make me glad to be where I am. It's like an autobiography that I don't even have to write; I just sit back, observe, pay attention, and click.

The last few years have been rough, partly because of bad decision making, partly because of bad luck. I take credit for all the poor choices I've made, and I've certainly learned some much-needed lessons the hard way. And, most important of all, I see the silver lining in all of it. Through debt, illness, injury, homelessness, hunger, poverty and pain, I have been given opportunities that no one else would. I've seen so many things. I appreciate the little things so much more. And that, more than anything else, makes me grateful for all the shitty times.
